Parish Gift Day Pentecost 31 May 2009
31/05/2009 by admin.
This day was the second Gift Day in our parish’s three year commitment to a special USPG project, ‘Reaching out to Ethiopia’.
You might like to know more about this very important outreach work. The following has come from the latest newsletter.
USPG Mission Companions Andrew and Janice Proud have been based at St Matthew’s Church, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, since 2002.
Andrew serves as Area Bishop of Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa and he and Janice are working with the church’s outreach programmes. Some of the churches he oversees are in the Gambella region that borders Sudan, including churches set up to provide help and encouragement for Sudanese refugees who fled civil war in their home country.
In addition to developing their ministry among the Christian community in Addis, the Prouds have helped change the lives of families in the kabele (urban villages) by supplying school materials, uniforms and fees for children. They have also planted several churches.
By supporting this Project through USPG, we will provide the means for Andrew and Janice’s dedicated work to continue.
Over the next few years, they plan to train leaders and encourage them to further develop the church’s outreach work that they have begun, with a particular emphasis on work with AIDS orphans.
The following quote is from Stephanie Mooney USPG Link Officer for Africa
‘The dedicated work of Andrew and Janice Proud is an inspiring example of Christian service. They have been a blessing to the local community and continue to equip and train new church leaders.’
All of the collections and donations following the Joint Pentecost Service will be passed to this project.
If you would like to know more about the project and how your money is being spent, this can be found on the USPG website:
If you want to find out more visit the USPG website at www.uspg.org.uk.

Online Safety

This advice on Online Safety is from the BBC Messageboards site to which I give full credit

Online Safety
People you meet online
Remember that posting a message on a message board is like making a public announcement. Everyone can see that information, not just the person you have been talking to.
Be wary
People you meet online may not be who they seem. They can post information about themselves which may not be true and encourage you to build up a picture of them which is misleading.
Never give out your contact details
This includes things like:
- Your real name.
- Postal address and postcode.
- Telephone number (including mobile).
- Email address (including Hotmail or webmail addresses).
Messages which contain contact details will be edited. If you see contact details in a message, mailto:Webmaster@parishoffleet.org.uk to let us know.
Don’t give too much detail
Take care when giving out information that could help someone to locate you. This could be details of your school, home town or clubs you belong to.
Tell us if you are worried
If another user is abusive to you or makes you feel uncomfortable, you should contact us mailto:Webmaster@parishoffleet.org.uk. Please explain the situation as clearly as you can, so that we can investigate.
