Operation Love in a Box
23/10/2009 by admin.
Hopefully by the time most of you read this you will have received a leaflet in church and know a little about the aim of the venture. You will all be aware that the first Sunday in December has traditionally been a ‘Toy Service’ in the parish. Our gifts were given to the Local Authority to give to children in need locally. The last two years, however, it has been very difficult to donate the toys. Last year we were specifically asked not to deliver any toys.
This year the PCC thought they would like to take a slightly different approach and look at giving via The Mustard Seed Relief Missions Charity. The charity operates the ‘Love in a Box’ scheme. This sends gift wrapped shoe boxes with various gift items in them to children in Romania, Moldova and Ukraine. You can take a look at their website at http://www.msrm.org.uk. I would like to encourage you all to pick up a leaflet and consider making up a box.
If you feel unable to make one up on your own, maybe you could partner up with someone. Or if you belong to one of the many groups or teams within the church, perhaps your group could consider making up a box or two between them. The charity is quite specific about the contents of the box and how it should be presented. This is to do with the sensitive nature of some of the experiences of the children, and also for an easier passage through customs. The leaflet does explain everything very clearly. The collection date we have been given is at the end of November, so we are going to make Sunday 22 November the ‘Love in a Box’ collection day in both churches.

Gift Day Step by Step 29 March 2009

Gift Day for Step by Step on 29 March
There have been many times in my life when the kindness and generosity of people have made me feel very humble indeed. The Gift Day held on the 29 March for the young people at Step by Step is one of those occasions. I would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to all of you who helped to raise the magnificent sum of £1150. All this money will go towards transforming the lives of our young people at Step by Step.
In addition to the Gift Day, I’d also like to thank those of you who donated Easter Eggs. This is the first year that I have really been able to see the excitement in the young people’s faces at the prospect of having a treat and I can assure you that the chocolate eggs were very much appreciated.

Gift Day USPG in Ethiopia 31 August 2008

August 31st: USPG in Ethiopia
Thank you to all who gave so generously for USPG in Ethiopia. We collected a total of £664.22. We will keep you up-to-date over the coming year with news from the project.
The PCC has decided that they would like the parish to be involved in ongoing support of a missionary project. To this end they selected a project which comes under the umbrella of USPG (the United Society for the Propagation of the Gospel), a missionary organisation that works in direct partnership with Anglican Churches in over 50 countries, helping to support vital church work, including healthcare, education, leadership training and action for social justice. We kicked off our involvement with a Gift Day at our joint service on August 31st. See an article on the USPG website.
If you want to find out more visit the USPG website at www.uspg.org.uk.
You can also make a donation for this project online on the USPG website
