This day was the second Gift Day in our parish’s three year commitment to a special USPG project, ‘Reaching out to Ethiopia’.

You might like to know more about this very important outreach work. The following has come from the latest newsletter.

USPG Mission Companions Andrew and Janice Proud have been based at St Matthew’s Church, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, since 2002.

Andrew serves as Area Bishop of Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa and he and Janice are working with the church’s outreach programmes. Some of the churches he oversees are in the Gambella region that borders Sudan, including churches set up to provide help and encouragement for Sudanese refugees who fled civil war in their home country.

In addition to developing their ministry among the Christian community in Addis, the Prouds have helped change the lives of families in the kabele (urban villages) by supplying school materials, uniforms and fees for children. They have also planted several churches.

By supporting this Project through USPG, we will provide the means for Andrew and Janice’s dedicated work to continue.

Over the next few years, they plan to train leaders and encourage them to further develop the church’s outreach work that they have begun, with a particular emphasis on work with AIDS orphans.
